'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith resumes battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he reminisces about the nail-biting dying seconds of Swansea's stunning fightback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The encounter ended with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles following the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith struck the post with a speculative effort from outside the box, and Cameron Burgess quickly converted the deflection before racing off toward the East Stand to revel in the moment, with fans mobbing the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The result completed an incredible comeback given the team had found themselves down 2-0 deep into the latter period. During the celebrations, there was some minor mishaps. Galbraith explained, "There was a spectator shouting out and we were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're people, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The victory booked a upcoming match at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, a team Galbraith pushed hard at the same stage of the FA Cup with the London side in February. The athletic midfielder had a prime vantage point when the underdogs took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's long-range effort from about way out going in via the woodwork and the opposition keeper. It seems unfair that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've given it to him for attempting the shot from that range," stated Galbraith, who began the game centrally before switching to right defensive wing after they changed shape. That meant competing with the England international, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the Manchester squad who paid tribute to the way Orient played positively.

Guardiola's System

"Athletically they are very good but even the fundamentals and routine actions, they can just do it over and over again," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they never miss a pass and they understand how to control and neutralize a game. You can think you're all right and then abruptly they will just thread a ball past your midfield without you even noticing. You have to be switched on throughout of the game. It demands a strong mentality and focus just to stay in the game."

Welsh Transition

The Welsh side sought to acquire Galbraith in January and secured his signature to sign him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a crowd pleaser across two seasons at his former club and has quickly achieved similar status in his new home. At the London club he linked up again with his former manager, who earlier gave Galbraith his first extended run in first-team action on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a spell at League Two the Manchester club, before he departed his boyhood club.

Growth Journey

"I was likely a bit naive going into senior level. I think a lot of players would say under-23s football is completely distinct. Sometimes it appears the ball is moved without much intensity. There are limited tackles or duels. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

National Team Success

His progress reflects that development for both domestically and internationally, performing well for the Green and White Army, who could still reach the global tournament next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has been selected in the past five games, including both legs encounters against a football powerhouse. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's ex- international manager, gave him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he manipulates the ball and his ability to spot a killer pass.

Humble Beginnings

This represents quite the ride for the player from the neighborhood in his hometown, just outside Belfast, who was raised observing his parent, his father, also a midfielder, play for a local club.

Manchester United Experience

Galbraith's single match for United came in Central Asia in 2019, a European competition trip to the host city, where they featured on an artificial pitch and the stadium roof was closed owing to temperatures of -15C. "That proved to be a extended travel and it was chilly," he says, smiling. "The week before, myself and quite a few of the young lads practiced as a group, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to join the main group and make an appearance at the end was amazing."

Departing Old Trafford

How hard was it to depart Manchester United, the club he transferred from aged his mid-teens? "It was quite easy, because I arrived at the moment where I realized I couldn't establish myself at the top level. I'm extremely thankful for the years at the club but it got to the point where I felt I had to take a different path, join a smaller club and play men's football. Now I'm gradually progressing again."

Life in Swansea

This occurs during the middle of the day at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has a commitment at late afternoon: a driving theory test, another progress toward getting on the road. Before his recent move to Sketty, the 24-year-old was a constant rider in Swansea's dubbed fun bus, a small coach driven by team personnel, Pete and Howard, which transports players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, Ronald, Malick Yalcouyé – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to socialize with the guys but I'm aiming to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and driving. His teammate is known for his humor; he's frequently playing tricks."

Fan Interactions

When he represented Leyton Orient, Galbraith would mix with fans on London's Central line after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
